Birzeit University continues to strengthen regional cooperation in BSEMAN Network

Birzeit University, represented by its president Abdullatif Abuhijleh, participated in the second conference of the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean Academic Network-BSEMAN, held in Rostov State University in Russia between October 9 and 13, 2019.

Last year, the university participated as a founding member in the first conference, held in Greece, representing Palestine and universities of the West Bank on the first coordinating committee.

BSEMAN is formed by 52 academic institutions from countries located in the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean regions, including Palestine, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Syria and Lebanon.

The collaboration plans to develop research in a range of scientific disciplines, with special focus on global environmental issues, academic workshops and conferences, a sustainable network of libraries and data-resource exchange among the participating institutions, and cooperative youth initiatives.

Abuhijleh said that the university strives to build solid ties and connections with higher education institutions from all over the world. BSEMAN, according to Abuhijleh, is a great chance for Birzeit University to explore new cultures and exchange knowledge and expertise with new partners.

Recently, the university has celebrated the partnership with BSEMAN through organizing a conference on the legal, political and economic implications of implementing the Palestinian national project on Palestine and Palestinians. The conference was held by the Faculty of Law and Public Administration and the Institute of Law, in collaboration with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
