Birzeit University Celebrates the 40th Commencement

Birzeit University celebrated on June 12, 2015, the graduation of the 40th cohort of students from the faculties: Arts, Nursing, Pharmacy and Health Professions and education, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah, high ranking officials, chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Hanna Nasir, university president Dr. Khalil Hindi, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, in addition to parents of graduate students.

Hindi pointed out that the university has not reached this distinguished place without the concerted efforts of hundreds of teachers and staff, many of whom spent most of their lives in the service of the University and its students.

Nasir said: 'Birzeit University will witness in the coming days a change in the leadership pyramid, with the end of Hindi’s mandate, and the assumption of Dr. Abdul Latif Abu Hijleh, who previously served as vice president for academic affairs.

Nasir added: "During the past five years, Hindi has led the university with outstanding administrative performance, which raised the university’s scientific and global position. During his term since 2010, Hindi was able to radically modify some academic programs, in addition to his fruitful efforts that led to obtaining valuable endowments that will no doubt contribute to the university’s sustainability. "

Hamdallah valued the important role played by the Palestinian universities, bearing a national message to build skills and conduct in order to encounter challenges and difficulties, in addition to creating an incubator for human capital, contributing to the development of the Palestinian society and state-building.

On the second day, the graduation ceremony was held for students of engineering, technology, business and economics, in the presence of the university president Dr. Khalil Hindi, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Khawla Shakhshir, members of the Board of Trustees, high ranking Palestinian officials, faculty and staff, in addition to the parents of graduate students.

During the ceremony, the university president awarded the "Outstanding Employee" and the "outstanding teacher" excellence awards.

Moreover, Birzeit University concluded the 40th Commencement on Sunday, June 14, 2015 by graduating students of science, Law, Public Administration and Graduate Studies. Over three days, 1992 students from eight faculties have graduated, out of which 68 % are females and 32% are males.
