Birzeit University, Canadian University Discuss Cooperation

Associate Vice-President of International Affairs in McMaster University- Canada, Peter Masher accompanied by the Political Officer  at the Canadian Representative Office in Ramallah, Kate Solomon met with Birzeit University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Henry Giacaman to explore areas where the two institutions might cooperate.

Masher expressed McMaster’s  interest in developing a cooperation in  research especially in water and health.

“Birzeit University endeavours to meet emerging challenges in an era of globalization by advancing our programs that we teach in our faculties, and also by increasing the knowledge necessary for the advancement of education, science and technology, social and human sciences, in addition to culture and communication”, said Giacman.

“Through cooperation and networking among higher education institutions and academics worldwide, we permit the access, transfer and adaption of knowledge within and across borders”, he added.

Masher said that the University is looking for opportunities to further represent McMaster on the global stage, and expand the international engagement for the University. “We are keen to establish partnerships with international academic institutions to be able to truly promote cross- border cooperation in terms of research, training and teaching. Our international strategy works well with Canada’s aim to deliver academic and economic assistance to Palestinians”.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to develop their cooperation in the near future through a memorandum of understanding.
