On October 29, 2022, the Birzeit University campus bustled with students for the first day of the 2022–23 academic year. More than 3,300 students excitedly began a new chapter in their lives by enrolling in classes at Birzeit University.

Including the new enrollees, about 14,500 total students currently attend Birzeit University. All nine faculties at the university held orientations for the new students to discuss academic programs and university life at Birzeit.

Birzeit University President Dr. Beshara Doumani welcomed the students, assuring that the university will continue to be a unique and special place that provides quality education and encourages students to lead and serve their communities.

Dr. Doumani stated that the university will inaugurate a PhD program, bringing the total of PhDs offered to three this academic year. “We launched a PhD program in Mathematics to equip students with the analytical skills needed to proficiently teach and research in the fields of pure and applied mathematics. Through this program, Birzeit University will have three PhD programs, along with Computer Science and Social Sciences.”

The university is also proud to offer two new bachelor’s degree programs in Cyber Security and Strategic Communication, in addition to three master’s degree programs, in Women’s Health, Law and Information Technology, and Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

Doumani further addressed the students: “Despite all existential threats, Birzeit University has maintained its position and continued to prosper by holding on and leveraging its main strengths: academic excellence, community engagement and a commitment to the national cause.” He expressed his firm belief and optimism in constructive dialogue, shared governance, institutional integrity, respect for pluralism and diversity and safeguarding the rights and dignity of all members of the Birzeit community to make the university a model that all Palestinians can dream of living in.
