Birzeit University Awarded Top Three Places in Tom Kay Contest

Birzeit University won the top three places in the Tom Kay annual competition for free architectural drawing 2014, organized by the Palestinian Centre for Architectural Conservation/Riwaq. The jury consisted of Sameh Abboushi, Yara Bamiah and Ada Kay.

Sophomore student Mehran Abu al-Hummos ranked first, followed by senior Mahmoud Tayseer al-Jamal who won second place, while third place was taken by freshman student Raghad Saqf al-Hate.

Eighteen students participated in this year’s competition from the Palestine Polytechnic University, Birzeit University, Islamic University – Gaza, and the International Academy of Art, Palestine.

Birzeit University’s Department of Architectural Engineering Chair Mohamed Abdel-Hadi was delighted with this result, which demonstrated students’ excellence. He added, "This competition contributes to students' skill development, and provides them with expertise that broadens their horizons in architectural drawing while promoting a culture of positive competition among the students."

The award honors the spirit of the late British engineer architect Tom Kay, who visited the university several times, and worked as a  visiting Professor at  the Department of Architectural Engineering.
