Birzeit Students Gain Experience at Arab Winter School for Astrophysics

Three of Birzeit University physics students recently participated in the First Arab Winter School for Astrophysics at Cadi Ayyad University in Morocco. The school aimed to build an infrastructure of solid academic and graduate programs in the field of astrophysics in the Arab region.

During the four-day extensive program, students Sameh Othman, Shorouq Nairoukh and Mahmoud Awashra, along with a number of international students and professors learned about the solar system and exoplanets, the solar physics, and the galactic, extragalactic and observational astronomy.

The students expressed their excitement to participate and learn from an un-traditional and interesting learning method in astronomy and physics, which will enable them to actively participate in empowering Birzeit University's Michel and Sanieh Hakim Observatory with updated knowledge and innovations, in addition to participating in research projects locally and internationally.

This winter school is a starting essential step not only in providing fundamental knowledge of astrophysics and data analysis skills Arab undergraduate and postgraduate students but also an opportunity to expose them to existing research activities and exchange experiences.
