Birzeit Releases of Open-Source AI Toolkit for Arabic NLP (SinaTools)

Birzeit University’s SinaLab announced the launch of SinaTools, an open-source AI package for Arabic Natural Language Processing, which consists of Python APIs, command lines, collabs, online demos, and many datasets and language models.

SinaTools is a set of deep learning-based technologies, such as lemmatization, part-of-speech tagging, root tagging, word-sense disambiguation and semantic tagging, synonym extraction and evaluation, named entity recognition, relation extraction, semantic relatedness, in addition to other utilities for text processing and analysis. This package integrates seamlessly into various workflows, enabling researchers, developers, and businesses to leverage cutting-edge NLP tools.

The development of SinaTools reflects SinaLab’s commitment to democratizing Arabic NLP by offering advanced, user-friendly, open-source tools. This initiative is especially significant in the field of Arabic NLP, where accessible resources tailored to the unique complexities of the Arabic language are still scarce.

Prof. Mustafa Jarrar, director of SinaLab, emphasized the significance of SinaTools as an open-source solution for the wider Arabic NLP community. ‘By offering this toolkit for free, we aim to empower researchers, educators, and industry professionals to develop innovative NLP applications for the Arabic language,’ he said

Prof. Talal Shahwan, president of Birzeit University, affirmed that despite the challenging circumstances in Palestine, the university remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence and advancing knowledge. He credited this achievement to the dedication and hard work of the university’s faculty and researchers.
