Birzeit professor granted Dean of Laboratory Medicine Award for excellence in research

Award marks the third time Dr. Mahmoud Srour has won the prize

Dr. Mahmoud Srour, an assistant professor of biology and biochemistry at Birzeit University, was awarded the Dean of Laboratory Medicine Award (the Dr. Atallah Rashmawi Award) for his paper, co-authored with his student, Rashail Faraon, which was submitted to the tenth Palestinian Conference of Laboratory Medicine and the fifteenth Arab Conference of Clinical Biology, which were held contemporaneously from April 18 – April 21, 2018, in Al-Bireh. 

Srour’s paper, “Molecular characterization of Β-thalassemia intermedia in the West Bank, Palestine,” was chosen from 108 papers submitted by over 1200 participants from Palestine, Tunisia, Jordan, and Morocco. The conferences were also attended by 12 international researchers from Italy, Sweden, and France. 

The conferences, chaired by Professor Bernard Gouget, featured 12 workshops, and were supported by the Arab Federation of Clinical Biology and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. 

This is the third time that Srour has won the Dean of Laboratory Medicine Award – he received the award in 2010 and 2014 –  which was established in 2008 and is awarded on a biennial basis.
