"Biology and Biotechnology" a New Program Introduced by Birzeit University to Be Launched by The Beginning of The Academic Year

Birzeit University received accreditation from the National Authority for Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for the Bachelor's Programme in Biology and Biotechnology, which will be hosted by the Department of Biology and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Science and will begin teaching during the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025.

The program aims to provide students with the necessary technical skills and science education in biology and biotechnology to be able to pursue multiple career paths in higher education, scientific research, and the biotechnology industry.

The program's importance stems from biology being one of the disciplines that are changing rapidly to become more informed, relying on technology-supported interdisciplinary collaboration to provide better answers to biological issues. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field that combines biology and modern technology to provide solutions to problems in various fields, including agriculture, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and food science.

The program consists of 122 hours, the courses of which will give students a multidisciplinary perspective, which enables them to see biology and biotechnology applications in multiple areas, and to be able to analyze problems from different angles and propose practical and innovative research solutions to them; balancing theoretical knowledge with practical experience to give graduates options for further education and scientific research in this exciting field, or continuing to work in the public sector and private industry.

The program will offer the 10 highest enrolment rates in the program a 25% discount on the first year's academic premiums, after which students can benefit from a wide range of scholarships offered by the university.
