American Delegation of Librarians and Archivists to Palestine Visits the University

A U.S. delegation of Librarians and Archivists has visited Birzeit University on June 26, 2013 and met with Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Adnan Yahya, Director of the university library Ms. Diana Sayej Nasir, Director of Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies Dr. Abdul-Karim al-Barghouthi.
Yahya briefed the delegation on BZU’s history, faculties and role in community service, emphasizing BZU’s interest in developing relations with various universities around the world.
The delegation visited the main university library and was briefed on its developments in the field of archiving, as the delegation commended the progress achieved in the area of archiving.
After that, the delegation met with the Palestine Archive team, which is housed by the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies, who explained the idea of the Palestine Archive collection of huge number of archives that are available inside and outside Palestine.
This Librarians and Archivists to Palestine delegation emerged from a conversation between librarian and archivist friends in the United States about their desire to meet their Palestinian colleagues and better understand the conditions of librarians and archivists in Palestine. However, the delegation is fully independent, and is not affiliated with any institution or government.
