9th Engineering Day Showcases Relationships Between Academia and Industry

Birzeit University President Khalil Hindi, Palestinian Minister of Local Government Khaled Qawasmi and Faculty of Engineering Dean Afif Hasan opened the Ninth Engineering Day, a two-day event featuring engineering companies and graduate student projects, in addition to seminars and an honorary ceremony for outstanding students
The April 16, 2013 event was held under the “golden” sponsorship of the Palestine Real Estate Investment Co. (PRICO) and the “silver” sponsorship of Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC).
President Hindi called the university’s Faculty of Engineering a “minaret for science, development and hard work,” keeping pace with the latest advancements in science and engineering worldwide.
"The participation of many of the leading engineering companies manifests their trust in Birzeit University in general, and the Faculty of Engineering in particular,” he went on.
Minister Qawasmi spoke about the role of Birzeit University and the Faculty of Engineering in responding to local labor market needs, emphasizing that the activities of Engineering Day embodies continuous interaction with the local and regional engineering sector, and strengthens the relationship between the university and the community.
Hasan told the audience that this Engineering Day is observed by the 30th class of Engineering Faculty graduates. "We have attracted more than 30 engineering companies and institutions to participate in the engineering exhibition, in which more than 28 graduate students’ projects have been also displayed. Moreover, more than 150 students have benefited from the career day and the participation of a number of foreign engineering institutions, including the French Development Agency (AFD), German Academic Exchange Foundation DAAD and CHF International. "
Palestinian Engineers Association President Ahmad Adili said that his organization works hard to enhance the status of engineering work and to support the role of engineers in construction and development, by organizing engineering work in partnership with relevant ministries and local institutions.
PRICO’s director general Nidal Abu Lawe gave a briefing on the company, stating that it was founded in 1994, and has implemented a large number of housing and commercial projects. He commended the standards and performance of Birzeit University engineering students in the labor market.
