8 Birzeit Researchers in the Top 2% of Researchers Globally in Their Fields for 2024
Stanford University and Elsevier Publishing House’s ranking lists showed that eight Birzeit University researchers are among the top 2% worldwide. The lists rank research output based pn it quality, size, and effect.
This year was marked by the advanced ranking of Birzeit University researchers among researchers globally, and the number of researchers from the university appearing on the classification list rose from seven in last year's version to eight.
In the first updated list of classifications based on the assessment of research production for all years of research activity of academics and researchers, by measuring and evaluating the volume, quality and impact of accumulated research production over various years, Birzeit University has had 6 out of 19 Palestinian researchers and scholars appearing on the list.
This list from Birzeit University featured Dr. Talal Shahwan of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Talal Shahwan from the Faculty of Science; Dr. Afif Akel & Dr. Majdi Mafarja from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Isam Al-Khatib, Dr. Rita Giacaman and Dr. Abdullatif Husseini from the Institute of Community & Public Health.
Additionally, 40 Palestine researchers were on the second list measuring the research output in 2023, five of which were from Birzeit University; Dr. Majdi Mafarja and Dr. Mustafa Jarrar from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Dr. Niveen Abu Rmeileh, Dr. Rita Giacaman, and Dr. Abdullatif Husseini from the Institute of Community & Public Health.
It is worth mentioning that this ranking began as a team of two Stanford researchers cooperating with researchers from Elsevier. This list is based on the new methodology of the citation index composite. It relies on several criteria related to research output. The data is then deployed via classification and review of results related to the researchers through the Scopus database for the top 100 thousand researchers worldwide and in all fields.
