245 Scholarships Distributed Through Student Council Projects

As one of the projects of the Birzeit University student council, the university’s grants and financial aid committee distributed 245 scholarships to needy students for the 2013-14 academic year 2013-2014.

Committee chair and student affairs dean Mohammad Al-Ahmad said he valued the committee’s intensive efforts to provide financial aid, grants and loans for needy students, in order to help them overcome the financial barriers that hinder them from completing their university studies, especially in light of the current Palestinian economy. Al-Ahmad also said that these grants are part of a framework of cooperation between the student council, specific projects whose revenues are allocated for needy students, and the university’s efforts to increase the number of grants and scholarships for distinguished needy students.

Student council president Adham Safi noted that student grants are secured through projects supervised by the student council, such as the Faculty of Science cafeteria and the printing center at the student council headquarters. Safi said that the committee seeks to provide needy students with an opportunity to complete their higher education by providing them with grants to cover their tuition fees and living costs.
