Webometrics Google Scholar Rankings
Based on the Google Scholar citation data issued in the January 2019 edition by Webometrics, Birzeit University came first among 13 Palestinian universities included in this edition ranking. The university is ranked 28th among 327 Arab universities, and 1482nd among more than 6000 world universities included in the list.
The academic papers published by Birzeit University’s professoriate had received 35,144 citations, an increase of 25% compared to last edition’s ranking.
This year marks the sixth consecutive time that the university has led its national peers in the Webometrics ranking, which classifies universities based on the number of citations received by the academic papers that they publish.

The rankings are based on the number of citations received by the academic papers published by professors who have public Google Scholar profiles. The universities are ranked by the number of citations received by each university’s top ten professors, with the citations of the topmost professor from each university excluded for improving representativeness.
