Dr. Adel Said Zagha

VP for Administrative and Financial Affairs 2021-

He was born in Nablus in 1956, and received a PhD in economic theory and public finance from the Free University of Berlin in 1994, a master’s degree in economics from Vanderbilt University/USA in 1984, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from Birzeit University in 1981. He is an assistant professor of economics at Birzeit University, where he served as the chairperson of the Department of Economics and Director of the Master’s Program in Economics from 1994-1999, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics from 1999-2004, Director of Planning and Development in 2005, then Vice President for Planning, Development and Quality Assurance in 2006-2011, then Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs for the period 2011-2016. He was a visiting scholar at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and a visiting professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. His last research work was part of a research team with the United Nations Population Fund to develop a report on the population in Palestine up to 2050. He has research relationships with the Palestinian Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS), the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (Muwatin), and the Chris Michelsen Institute in Norway. He is currently writing a book on the global political economy. He has many publications, and his research interests include global political economy, fiscal decentralization, taxation, tax reforms in developing countries, issues of higher education quality and institutional performance, poverty and inequality, and has provided many consultancies to public and private sector institutions in Palestine. Member of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
