An examination of the concept of popular culture in relation to mass culture, folk culture, and dominant culture.  Cultural texts and practices such as festivals, celebrations, film, and advertisement.  Structuralist, post-structuralist, Marxist, feminist, and post-modernist approaches to popular culture.  The role of popular culture in social life with an emphasis on the impact of race, ethnicity, class, and gender on the production and consumption of popular culture.
