One hour per week of individual instruction in the student’s major Arabic instrument. Intermediate techniques of playing the instrument; intermediate repertoire including samai and longa forms in mainstream maqams and some more unusual maqams such as saba, farah faza, husseini; introduction of uneven meters such as 7/8; accompaniment of popular songs; rhythmic ornaments as a form of enrichment of the melody; simple improvising in maqams such as bayat and hijaz, and connecting them melodically.
