Development of architecture and urbanism in the Middle ages across different civilizations through Byzantine, Medieval and Islamic eras (Romanesque, Gothic, Medieval City in Europe, architecture and the city in the early Islamic world - Umayyad, Abbasid, Mamluk, Andalusia), cross-cultural influences and patterns on architecture, the course works both chronologically as a history of phases and styles, and examines the contextual, socioeconomic, religious, climatic and political issues.
