DSGN2270 | LOCAL AND REGIONAL INDUSTRIES

The changing contexts of local and regional production, study of local and regional industries their development, challenges in different geographical locations and the social, political and economic factors that shapes cultural production forms. The course investigates the industry of handicrafts and its development in Palestine, its regional connections. A chronological study of the adaptation and use of tools and materials throughout the Palestinian and Arab world context history:  early Christianity, early Islamic, Omayyad, Mamluk, ottoman, and Modern Palestine, The impact of modern life styles, mass production and consumption in the development of handcrafts in Palestine and the Arab world.
