BIOL230 | GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY

Introduction to the study of microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and protozoa in addition to viruses. Their structure, classification, and relationship to humans in health and disease. Role of the host immune system in restricting microbial growth and the role of vaccination and the use of antibiotics to prevent and treat microbial infections. Disease epidemiology and the relationship between microorganisms and public health. (Lecture 2 hrs, laboratory 3 hrs). Does not count with BIOL243
