Governing Responsible AI and Data for Development – MENA
Governing Responsible AI and Data for Development – MENA
The Center for Continuing Education (CCE) at Birzeit University has developed an AI and data-based project in partnership with the American University in Cairo (AUC), Egypt, and multiple organizations from the MENA region. The project aims to create a pipeline of ideas and talents to bolster all stakeholders in the industry.
This multifaceted project includes research projects at local and regional levels, a regional observatory and public awareness and mentorship programs, funneling into the promotion, sustainability and accessibility of the ethical use of AI and data for development.
Project Necessity in the MENA region:
The international Data Corporation (IDC) has noted that spending on AI and data in the MENA region has reached $83 billion USD. While the world is evolving toward AI, we are not keeping up with this advancement, as we face challenges in finding talents and optimizing opportunities. Other challenges include the lack of Arabic instruction in AI and data and limited practical knowledge in the field.
Mentorship programs for you:
AI and Data for Development Learning Journey:

In addition to the fact that all discussions and presentations take place in Arabic, participants are required to submit a work product as the final project and have the opportunity to exchange skills, experiences and knowledge with participants and mentors from across the MENA region. Moreover, there are three iterations for this program, each with a specific theme.
