Samih T. Darwazah

Samih Taleb Darwazah founded Hikma Pharmaceuticals in 1978 and continues to serve as their chairman today. He did his undergraduate work at the American University of Beirut (1954) and then received his Masters of Science in Pharmacy at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in Missouri as a Fulbright scholar in 1964. In 2010, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the same institution. Darwazah went on to fill a number of business and public sector roles, serving as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan (1995-96), chairman of Arab Engineering Industries (1999-2004), and chairman of Capital Bank (2009-10). He also was a member of Jordan’s Senate (2009-10), advised the king on economic policies (1999-2000), served on the board of the Queen Nour Foundation (1995-99) and founded and chaired the Jordan Trade Association (1989-94).
