The Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance in collaboration with the Institute of Community and Public Health - Birzeit University and the Disability Under Siege project at the University of Birmingham are pleased to announce the launch of three virtual training sessions on disability research.
Target Group:
The sessions’ target group includes individuals who preferably have some experience in fields related to disability or are interested in learning more about disability research. Participants should be fluent in English, as all three sessions will be delivered in English.

To register, please use the following link no later than 20-5-2022, noting that you can register to attend one, two, or three sessions. However, a certificate of attendance will be provided to those who attend all three sessions in full.
Sessions details:
- Session 1: May 28, 2022 from 11:00 am 1:00 pm
Introduction to Disability research: exploring different world views on how we define/approach disability. A basic introduction on different ontological and epistemological approaches/possibilities and their implications for the way we approach research design. This will be an interactive session with opportunities for participants to discuss and explore with peers, and hopefully start to identify their own world view/ research approach/ positionality towards disability.
- Session 2: July 23, 2022 from 11:00 am 1:00 pm
Introduction to different methodological approaches: exploring the implications of different approaches to disability and the importance of coherence of design question and methodology in research design. The session will be an interactive exploration of methodological approaches, where participants will get the opportunity to explore and learn more about a variety of approaches to address different types of qualitative and quantitative research questions: from large scale census style research, using Washington group sets; to smaller scale qualitative studies at community level looking at more diverse approaches to framing/undertaking research.
- Session 3: Sept 10, 2022 from 11:00 am 1:00 pm
Introduction to ethical implications of research design choices: exploring power, control, and positionality of research on disability. This session will take a deep dive into co-inquiry methods and ask the question if this is simply a nice to have, or an ethical imperative for indigenous knowledge production in the context of Palestine? This session will be an interactive dialogue looking at the possibilities for developing / sharing different types of co-inquiry approaches/ possibilities with people with disability in Palestine.
