PhD Student Position in Structured Light at HZDR – Germany Scholarship starting year: 2025–2026

The External Academic Relations office is pleased to announce the funded PhD opportunity in Structured Light at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) in Germany.

About HZDR:

With cutting-edge research in the fields of energy, health, and matter, HZDR is home to around 1,500 employees from over 70 nations. The Institute of Radiation Physics focuses on states of matter under extreme conditions and at very small dimensions. The selected PhD student will join the Department of Laser Particle Acceleration to contribute to advanced laser physics research.

Conditions:

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a related field.
  • Knowledge in nonlinear optics, photonics, and laser physics is required.
  • Hands-on experience in femtosecond lasers, vacuum systems, or programming (LabView, Python) is advantageous.
  • Strong scientific communication skills in English are required. German is an asset.
  • The position is based in Dresden, limited to 36 months, with 19.5 hours/week.
