The External Academic Relations office is pleased to announce a fully funded PhD scholarship within the framework of the EU-funded MOJITO Project at the University of Bologna, Italy. The position is based at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (Ravenna Campus).

Project Overview:

The PhD focuses on developing a laboratory-scale system to produce decarbonised lime using microwave and inductive heating. The goal is to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, aligning with the EU's climate-neutral targets. The project includes both theoretical modeling and experimental work and will be carried out in collaboration with international partners under the European Innovation Council's Pathfinder Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101221957).

Preferred backgrounds include:

  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • Physics (Condensed Matter, Electromagnetism, etc.)

Funding and Benefits:

  • Monthly scholarship: €1,200
  • Additional €10,000 for international conferences and training (starting year 2)
  • Travel reimbursements for project missions
  • Flexible work setup: up to 20% remote work possible

Conditions:

  • Open to graduates with a second-cycle degree (Master’s or equivalent)
    • English proficiency: minimum C1 level
  • Must not be enrolled in another doctoral program in Italy

Selection criteria:

  • Academic qualifications and relevant Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of materials properties, heat transfer, and electromagnetic wave interactions
  • Desired experience: experimental design, COMSOL/MATLAB/ANSYS, dielectric spectroscopy, microwave heating systems
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork
  • Interview performance and motivation
