This seminar aims to initiate a debate on the nature of current efforts aiming at Preventing Violent Extremism and try to explore the conditions for ensuring that these efforts do not undermine human rights, including the Palestinian right to resist occupation in accordance with international law, and achieve its right to self-determination. It also aims at examining the possibility of a potential Palestinian contribution to establishing a more effective and efficient and human rights based response to violent extremism. The examination involves: deconstructing current hegemonic ideas of security-only approaches to the phenomenon, identifying the structural causes of violent extremism, exploring the dynamic relations between a real-democracy and security, and identifying key-experiences implemented by Palestinian resistance that contribute to the prevention of violent extremism.
