Impact of the Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance (LPHA)

The Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance (LPHA) is a network of Palestinian, regional and international researchers who are committed to the highest standards of scientific research in describing, analyzing and evaluating health care of Palestinians, through their  scientific publications and developing evidence-based  policies that promotes health practices and work against the Israeli occupation’s violations towards Palestinians basic rights.

The alliance organizes many training programs stemming from research, after determining the local needs using advanced scientific methods. The training programs target researchers and those interested in learning research methods specifically in the field of public and community health. On the other hand, the Institute in cooperation with regional partners such as the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University in Beirut, organizes an annual conference hosting researchers from different regions of the world to document the Palestinian experience from a scientific perspective This allows Birzeit University to be one of the most influential academic institutions in making policies related to developing public and community health for the Palestinians.

The number of participants in the Lancet annual conference ranges from 200-350. The Institute has gained high confidence which has allowed the Lancet project to possess a steering committee that consists of Palestinian academics, in addition to regional and international researchers from universities including King’s College, Imperial College, Cambridge University, and the American University of Beirut.
