Recently launched Ph.D. program offers pathways to new theoretical grounds in mathematics

Birzeit University is preparing to launch a Ph.D. program in mathematics in the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year after gaining approval from the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The program, the second Ph.D. offered by the university after the Ph.D. program in social science, equips students with the knowledge and skills to break new theoretical grounds in various sub-fields in mathematics and encourages the production of research on teaching mathematics in secondary- and higher-education institutions. Additionally, the program will help meet the need for skilled mathematics instructors in Palestinian schools and universities.

Comprising 54 credit hours, the program will be taught by professors and researchers from the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science, in addition to visiting instructors from Palestinian and international universities. As part of the Ph.D. program, assistantships will be provided to academically exceptional students.

The Faculty of Science is one of the oldest colleges at Birzeit University. It was established in 1972 and graduated its first cohort in 1976. Currently, the college offers more than 30 undergraduate and graduate programs taught by a distinguished faculty with a well-established research record.

The program is currently accepting admission applications.
