Sociology professor Abaher El-Sakka is visiting professor at European Universities

Abaher El-Sakka, an associate professor at Birzeit University’s Department of Social and Behavioral Science, spent an academic semester as a visiting professor at a number of European universities.

El-Sakka taught at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, and at the Institute of Political Studies of Lyon and Sciences Po Bordeaux, both in France. Also, he presented a number of public lectures and symposiums at the prestigious School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris, and at University of Burgundy in France. 

El-Sakka obtained a Master DEA (master’s degree in sociology) from the University of Nantes, France, in 1997 and a PhD in sociology with distinction from the same university in 2005. He worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Nantes from 1998 to 2006 and serves as a visiting professor at several universities in France and Belgium. He has carried out research at several research centers, including the Institut français du Proche-Orient in Amman, Jordan. With his current research focusing on social history and on the historiography of social sciences, he has most recently published the book titled “The Social History of Gaza under the British Mandate 1917–1948.
