Gold medal for student in Istanbul Karate Championship

Hala al-Qadi, a student at Birzeit University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology, won the gold medal for Palestine at the Istanbul Open Karate Tournament.

The university, represented by its vice president for academic affairs Khalid Swaileh, and dean of student affairs Mohammad Al Ahmad honored al Qadi who defeated close competitors from Greece, Norway, Tunisia and Turkey. More than 1200 athletes from around the world, representing 40 countries, participated in the competition.

The honoring ceremony was attended by Iyad Tumar, assistance vice president for academic affairs and Omran Dar Ali, activities coordinator.

Swaileh expressed his pride in Al Qadi’s international achievement. He pointed out that sports has always been an integral part of Birzeit’s culture and education.

Al-Qadi already won a gold medal, competing at the West Asia Karate Championship in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates, in February 2019.
