History professor offers alternative narrative on Jerusalem in new book

Nazmi Al Jubeh, an associate professor at the Department of History and Archeology, reviews and refutes the Israeli narrative on Jerusalem in his new book entitled “Jerusalem in the Historical Writings of Israelis.”

The book, published by Bayt Mal Al Qods Asharif Agency and Dar Abi Raqraq, relies on historical and archeological sources from the Holy City. rejects the main arguments of the prevalent Israeli interpretations of this material and defines the main pillars of an alternative historical narrative about Jerusalem that takes into consideration the Palestinian narrative.

Al Jubeh, the newly-appointed director of Birzeit University Museum, is an associate professor of history and archaeology at Birzeit University. He has served as co-director of Riwaq − Centre for Architectural Conservation, Ramallah, from 1992 to 2010, and was the director of the Islamic Museum – Al-Haram Al-Sharif, Jerusalem, from 1980 to 1984. Al Jubeh holds an undergraduate degree in Middle Eastern studies and archaeology from Birzeit University and both, a master’s degree in Oriental studies and archaeology and a PhD in Oriental studies from the University of Tübingen, Germany. Widely published, his research melds history, archaeology, politics and architecture.
