Birzeit University begins its second semester of 2018-2019

On January 30, 2019, Birzeit University welcomed 300 new students for the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, who enrolled in the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Today, the university has more than 14 thousand students joining its nine faculties.

On this occasion, President of Birzeit University Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh noted that the start of a new semester is always a special time on Birzeit’s campus, with new students and faculty and new opportunities. “I very much look forward to the rich and rewarding semester ahead. As we look ahead and seek to engage with the opportunities and challenges facing higher education today, we continue to be dedicated to making investments that strengthen our community, create an environment for our students and faculty to pursue their passions,” he said.

Dr. Abuhijleh pointed out that the university will offer a new master’s program in civil engineering with a focus on infrastructure and construction that aims to hone the skills of engineers to participate in the planning, design and implementation of various projects, adding: “We continue to  offer ways and programs to live our mission, educate our students and advance our work. The university continues to develop new academic programs, enhance its infrastructure and establish state-of-the-art buildings.”

“Birzeit University has been able to maintain its excellence in research and teaching,” Dr. Abuhijleh said. “According to the QS World University Rankings - in their 2019 edition - the university is ranked among the top 2.7% of universities worldwide, and among the best 50 universities in the Arab region. It is ranked 29th among Arab universities in the Google citation data ranking, and 305th in the world in the UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2018 edition, which classifies universities by their commitment to environmental sustainability.”
