Students join global youth effort to combat climate change

Birzeit University students helped draft a document that addressed climate change as part of a global youth effort. The paper is the final output of the 14th Conference of Youth, a global event that hosts youth from around the world to discuss and explore ways and methods of countering climate change and global warming, held from November 29 to December 1, 2018.

Hamed Wadi, Lara Sharif, and Rahaf Husari, from the Department of Civil Engineering, connected with their peers in 28 countries worldwide through virtual forums and classroom platforms organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Haya Abuhussein, an instructor in the Department of Languages and Translation, oversaw and coordinated the project at Birzeit University.

The annual Conference of Youth takes places before the annual UN Climate Change Conference and prepares youth to take part in the Conference of the Parties through workshops, seminars, and courses, culminating in a paper expressing the voices, ideas, and concerns of youth from 28 countries around the world.
