Agreement signed with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations

MoU provides for staff mobility, academic cooperation with the Russian university 

Birzeit University, represented by President Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations - one of the most respected universities in Russia - represented by Rector Anatoly Torkunov, on April 25, 2018, during a visit to the institute’s campus. 

The agreement comes after a visit by Vladimir Morozov, pro-rector for personnel policy at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and Krylov Alexander, a senior research fellow at the institute, to Birzeit University’s campus on March 26, 2018. 

Signed during a meeting between teams from Birzeit University and the international relations institute, the agreement provides opportunities for expertise exchange, student and staff mobility, and cooperation on research, development, and publication. 

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Abdul Karim Barghouti, former director of the Ibrahim Abu Lughoud Institute of International Studies; Vladimir E.M.Kozhokin, pro-rector for scientific work; and E.O.Shebalin, assistant vice-rector for personnel policy. 

During their visit, the Palestinian team attended a conference on Russian-Palestinian relations, held at the Moscow institute. The conference was dedicated to the 160thanniversary of Alexander II’s decree, which instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish a Russian diplomatic mission in Jerusalem.  

Additionally, the delegation took part in the launching ceremony of “The State of Palestine: The Right to the Future,” a book published by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the Moscow institute. 

Barghouti also delivered a lecture for Arab and oriental studies postgraduate students at the university.
