The “KARAMAH” Initiative at the Institute of Law – BZU launches the 2nd course of the program “Developing judicial training curricula”

On 20 May 2011, the “Karamah” Initiative at the Institute of Law - BZU launched the 2nd course of the program “Developing judicial training curricula”, held in Jericho, and attended by the Vice President for Community Affairs, Dr. Mounir Qazzaz, Director of the Institute of Law, Dr. Ghassan Faramand, President of the Supreme Court, Chief of the Judicial Council, Fareed Jallad, and twenty-three judges from the Magistrates Courts and Courts of Appeal in various Palestinian  governorates.

Dr. Qazzaz stressed BZU’s keenness to establish strong relations with the official Palestinian institutions, including the implementation of programs that aim to serve the justice sector institutions in Palestine. He said: "The efficient and independent judicial authority is the basis for human rights and dignity, in a climate of justice and equality."

Dr. Faramand wished that this course will achieve successful outcomes, emphasizing the importance of developing judicial training curricula, and the institutionalization of  the process.

The Judge Jallad emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Palestinian judiciary and BZU (Initiative for judicial independence and human dignity "KARAMAH"), in achieving vital achievements in the judiciary system, applauding this project, which is the 1st of its kind in terms of blending the academic and judicial cultures, which contributes to assisting Palestinians judges in acquiring research capabilities, and thus contributing to strengthening judicial independence and serving the Palestinian citizen

The initiative "Rule of Law and Human Dignity - Karamah", is carried out by the Institute of Law at BZU, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law at Windsor University in Canada, and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
