Prominent photographer addresses artistic criticism

The Department of Media at Birzeit University held a lecture on how to properly critique a photograph. The lecture was introduced April 26, 2017 by international Palestinian photographer, Yousef Khanfar.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Majdi Malki said that university is keen on hosting local and international experts who can share their rich experiences and success stories with students.

Khanfar indicated that a photograph has dozens of symbols and voices that express emotion that cannot be described in writing. That is why, according to Khanfar, photographs are much more expensive than books.

“Photographs can change our ideas and attitudes, and even affect policies and laws,” he commented. “Young Palestinian photographers should focus on showing the beauty of Palestine as their gate towards the world.”

During the lecture, Khanfar showcased a number of his photos for the students, and gave them some tips and guidelines for producing better, more impressive images.

Yousef Khanfar is an award-winning Palestinian author and listed as one of the world’s top photographers. He shares images and messages that transcend the dark corridors of our world and transport us to places of splendor where we can find peace and humanity.
