Birzeit Community helps Farmers with Olive Harvest

Birzeit University students, academics and administrators joined Palestinian families and farmers in harvesting their olives as part of a seasonal campaign organized by the Voluntary Work Office at the Deanship of Students Affairs.

President Abdullatif Abuhijleh, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs Rania Jaber, Dean of Students Affairs Mohammad Al Ahmad, and Cooperative Work Program Coordinator Ghada Al-Omari joined hundreds of university students in helping farmers in harvesting.

Abuhijleh underscored the university's national mission. "We strive to be engaged in this Palestinian ancient tradition and culture. An olive tree symbolizes our struggle for freedom and liberation."

Al Ahmad said that "an olive tree is not just a simple tree; it represents our attachment to our land and shows our determination to save our presence, identity and fundamental rights."

Since 1972, Birzeit University has joined farmers and family members in olive harvesting, now one of the institution’s traditions and national responsibility towards Palestine.
