Institute of Law Launches Legal Skills Program for Security Professionals

Birzeit University’s Institute of Law (IoL) launched a specialized Diploma in legal skills for security staff on June 28, 2016.

The launching ceremony was attended by Wahid Joma’a Director of Planning and Development  at the Ministry of Interior, legal advisor at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Jihad Kisswani, Manager of the IoL Legislative Support Department and Diploma Program Officer Mahmoud Alawneh, trainees and participants.

Jomaa’ said that this program offers a platform to teach both legal and practical skills. He added that the program is designed to qualify and train security employees to enable them carry out their assigned functions effectively and efficiently.

Alawneh explained the diploma’s objective and methodology, alluding to the program’s primary goal which is to create a unified discourse and performance criteria at legal institutions, improve participants professional skills and practical experience and therefore, enhance the security sector in Palestine.

Kiswani said that the diploma’s certification is driven by a comprehensive syllabus that teaches the skills and competencies required for security employers to achieve the highest standards of excellence. “This diploma is not a normal program, it supports participants with legal expertise, professional practical skills, and values to help them carry out their legal functions effectively and optimally.”

The program is implemented with the cooperation of Palestine’s Minister of Interior and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
