Abstract: The talk will
start with 200 years old Poncelet theorem, which concerns polygonal lines
inscribed in one and circumscribed about another conic in the plane. Then w
e will present its generalizations and the mechanical interpretation that i
nvolves billiard dynamics. Some of most recent results concerning elliptica
l billiards will be overviewed.
