Abstract: The producers of technology and solutions often pass along also the inherited culture of the innovators. When Haroun Al-Rashid, for example, during the peak of the Islamic Golden Age, wanted to empress the Charles the Great, the King of Franks (Western Europe) he sent him a clock which was a main reason to the wide spread of the “One Thousand and One Nights”. When we are using YouTube or Facebook, for example, we use them as they are. No cultural boundaries and with no cultural understanding of the viewer. In social networking phenomena isn’t social life influenced and affected by cultural aspect: believes and values? We often buy computers and mobiles by the size of screen, CPU speed, RAM, etc. By changing any of these items, a newer model is released and the older ones become “out-of-fashion”. Many consider Cultural Computing (CC) as a new era of HCI (Human Computer Interaction). Prof. Tosa defines CC as “The use of computers for purposes other than as machines for computational processing and data processing. This can be a means for understanding the hidden nature of human emotions and feelings, and for understanding cultural aspects unique to individual races”[1].I believe that CC goes beyond HCI and it can be a new era of computation. Instead of buying a mobile for example based on its CPU or RAM only, one living in our region and from our culture may need to buy a Halal Phone.I will be talking about halal Phone as an example of Cultural Computing: our Way.
