THE VIRTUAL GALLERY
Connected with the Gallery/Museum will be: A permanent hi tech- computer equiped space to enrich visual art experiences through non-traditional internet learning facilities.
Specific Objectives-
-To provide internet information and outreach opportunities for students , artists and members of the community to Visual Arts and Crafts from around the world, specially contemporary and avant-garde art creations etc...
-To establish a permanent space as a forum for cross-cultural issues and debates.
-To overcome problems of Art exposure specially in an environment impoverished in cultural opportunities ( lack of museums, galleries, art in the schools, books, art resources etc...)
-To provide links to hundreds of stimulating internet Art/Cultural related sites, CD roms and online image collections, under the guidance and supervision of a specialized program's advisor.
- To develop research scopes.
The Physical Setup
A special room to accommodate 20 students designed to host all the electronic and viewing activities. Equipped with a main server, computer terminals, LCD projector, Video Projector, slide projector, CD rom, DVD, scanner, photocopier , a library of videos, slides, software etc....
Supervision
The "Virtual Gallery" is to be managed and supervised by an artist/art historian with special know-how of internet and technical facilities. This person will plan the activities and promote the functions of the Gallery
Suggested Activities:
1.Virtual Exhibitions, rotational shows for known artitsts and other virtual thematic exhibitions at specified times. Using LCD to project large images or moving videos on a screen.
Example: Picasso- Father of Cubism, images from the artist's work will be projected daily for a
week from 12:00-1:00 pm.
2.Virtual Museum Tours, A schedule of simulated visits on the internet to world known Museums. The progression in the tour from one gallery to another, panoramic viewing the wall layout of the pictures and the objects and zooming on details etc... accompanied by description for each room or showcase etc... and where appropriate links to related materials on server.
Example: The Louvre Museum, The Egyptian Museum etc...
3.Virtual Expeditions Exploratory visits to historical and cultural sites:
Example: The Dome of the Rock, The Valley of the Kings (Egypt) The Taj Mahal (India).
4.Hosting Artists Works, profiles, portfolios etc...
5.Gallery Archives To establish a gallery archive of images etc. of original art works and objects. Through panoramic or 3D viewing.
