BZU Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the Ministry of Transportation

BZU President, Dr. Nabeel Kassis, and the Minister of Transportation, Dr. Mashour Abu-Daqqa, signed a cooperation agreement on 15 April 2008. The agreement aims to promote partnership between the public and academic sectors with respect to utilizing technology in service of the advancement of the Palestinian society.

Dr. Kassis noted that BZU has continuously focused on community work and on interaction with the public and private sectors, encompassing qualifications and expertise that contributes to raising the standards of work. He added that BZU has signed several successful agreements with a number of ministries in the field of information technology.

Dr. Abu-Daqqa stressed importance of such an agreement, underscoring the need for the involvement of the universities in community work, applauding the role of BZU on different levels, particularly in the field of development and automation of information systems, enabling the setting up of an "Electronic Government".

In accordance with the said agreement, the two parties shall establish a joint team of professionals to work on upgrading the information systems at the Ministry. The spheres of cooperation involve 3-phase action plan, moving towards the upgrading of the transportation computerized systems.

The said agreement stipulates that BZU shall provide the knowledge requirements for developing the Ministry's internal information network, prepare the required infrastructure for implementation and shall provide experts, who will offer specialized consultancies, while the Ministry shall provide the infrastructure requirements, necessary licenses for operation and shall set up the facilities according  standardized specifications.

Also, the two parties shall jointly hold capacity building training programs and establish a joint electronic forum to exchange information and expertise regarding the technical and technological status of information systems at the Ministry.
