BZU concluded a course on records management and electronic archiving
The participants recommended the need to adopt an electronic archiving program to serve the present and future work requirements in accordance with the international specifications and standards, and to train human cadre working in the field on information, archives and records, and to learn more about the experiences of different countries in this field.
The participants also called for the need to allocate annual budgets for all work requirements of archiving and documentation, and to secure harmony and integration of legislation and regulations pertaining to documentation and archives with the laws of institutions. They stressed the need for the universities to submit recommendations to the Higher Education Council to offer disciplines in the science of documentation and archives, due to the need of the Palestinian market, as well as the public and private Palestinian national institutions for this specialty.
This came during the closing ceremony of the training course on records management and electronic archiving, held by Yusuf Ahmed Alghanem Library (BZU Main Library) in cooperation with the Palestinian National Archives at the Council of Ministers.
The Library Director, MS. Diana Sayej, thanked the Palestinian National Archives, in particular the Director, Dr. Mohammed Bhais, and the General Manager of government records, Mr. Fawwaz Salameh, for holding this session, for the benefit of the national institutions, particularly the universities.
Dr. Bhais thanked the universities that participated in this session, as well as Birzeit University for hosting the training, emphasizing the readiness of the Palestinian National Archives to provide support and advice in this field. He added that this session aimed at not only to enhance the capabilities of the participants, but to highlight the importance of the Palestinian archives in general.
The Acting President of the University, Dr. Sami Sayrafi, explained that the university seeks to acquire and document information in the proper manner, and to move from paper-based system to an electronic system, stressing the need for cooperation between the parties concerned, especially in light of scarce resources.
