Lecture Discusses Student Activism in Israel Boycott Campaign

The Birzeit University Student Affairs Deanship, working with the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and the Palestinian Campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), held on November 25, 2014 a lecture on student activism in the BDS campaign. The talk was delivered by BDS founder Omar Barghouti and BDS outreach coordinator, Zaid Shuaibi.

Barghouti spoke of BDS campaign achievements, including the adoption of the campaign by businessman Bill Gates and a hundred other Nobel Peace Prize winners, scholars of history and anthropology, academic organizations, and 350 holocaust survivors who announced their boycott in The New York Times newspaper.

The BDS campaign was founded on June 6, 2005 as a response to the Palestinian civil society call to boycott Israel, and to defend all Palestinians rights including the right of return and ending the Israeli occupation.
