Birzeit University, RedCrow to Cooperate in Computational Linguistics

The Computer Science Department at Birzeit University signed on May 16, 2016 with RedCrow Intelligence an agreement to build smart security- altering systems. The agreement seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by creating a platform for scientific exchange and technical expertise between both parties.The agreement was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Khalid Abaza, and the CEO of RedCrow Intelligence Hussein Nasser Eddin, in the presence of Head of the Computer Science Department  Basem Sairafi and  Profesor Mustafa Jarrar as well as RedCrow’s COO Laila Akel and CTO Al-Tayeb Akel.The parties agreed to combine their research and technical efforts to develop the smart security system. The project will be built on the department’s ongoing research that aims to integrate and publish a large number of lexicons, and develop an Arabic Ontology- a well-annotated corpus for Palestinian dialect. In addition to RedCrow’s startup which provides detailed reports for clients who work in unstable areas to help them avoid physical security threats by providing them with real time intelligence.Abaza reaffirmed the university’s role to enhance research in the IT and technology sector, connecting the progress of a nation is closely linked with technological development. “The accumulation of scientific knowledge and new technologies has transformed human life. This agreement is vital to develop more knowledge through researches and innovations that meet the Palestinian societal and economical needs.”The CEO of RedCrow Intelligence Hussein Nasser Al-Deen applauded the research that is being conducted by the Department of Computer Science, assuring that new approaches in data science and analytics are needed to convert the data into actionable information.
