Jordanian Ambassador Vows to Promote Academic and Media Exchanges
Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom
of Jordan Awwad Sarhan
committed his country to supporting Palestinian academic life in a February 20,
2013 visit to Birzeit University.
He met with BZU President Khalil
Hindi, Media Development Center Director
Nibal Thawabteh, Media Department
Chairperson Ihab Bseiso, Vice President for Community Outreach Samia
Halileh, Public Relations Office Deputy Director Lubna
Abdel Hadi and Palestinian Journalists
Syndicate leader Abdel Nasser
Najjar.
Hindi briefed the ambassador on BZU’s academic
status and future plans, as well as its relationships with Jordanian universities, lauding this cooperation and the
vital role played by Jordan as a bridge between Palestine and the
outside world.
The Jordanian ambassador
also congratulated the university on its important role
and said his country is ready to offer ongoing support to
Palestinian students.
Thawabteh described the Media Development Center and its role
in improving Palestinian media performance
and in training journalists. She said she saw
this official visit as a valuable
opportunity to discuss ideas
and proposals to promote and develop
cooperation between academic institutions
and press institutions in the two
countries.
Najjar said he valued the strong relationship between the
Palestinian Journalists Syndicate and
Jordanian Journalists Syndicate, calling for an exchange of visits
and joint coordination in Arab and international forums.
Bseiso spoke of the
importance of Palestinian-Jordanian academic coordination, through, for example, visits by Palestinian
students to Jordan to meet with journalists
there and exchange experiences.
Ambassador
Sarhan promised to follow up on these
suggestions to promote student exchanges between Jordanian universities and BZU alongside visits by academics and media specialists to
give lectures and participate in
seminars in Jordan.
