Palestinian Health Minister Visits Birzeit University for Talks on Cooperation
Palestinian Minister of Health Hani Abdeen visited Birzeit University
on January 28, meeting with Birzeit President
Khalil Hindi and touring the facilities. The meeting was also attended
by Vice President for Advancement and Communication Ghassan
Khatib, Dean of
the Faculty of Nursing,
Pharmacy and Allied
Health Professions Tamer Essawi, and Bioequivalence
Unit Coordinator Ramzi Sansour.
The minister and Birzeit officials discussed areas for possible cooperation, including opportunities
for students and academics to train in skills development and medical support with the Ministry of Health.
Abdeen called
on universities, including Birzeit University, to provide a comprehensive overview
of health needs in Palestine, and to work cumulatively
to ensure the quality
of care.
"The Ministry of Health aspires to develop a strategic plan in cooperation with Palestinian universities, where each university has a role
to play," the minister said.
President Hindi said of the
visit that the two parties “aimed to explore prospects
and possibilities for cooperation with the Ministry
of Health, especially
since several agreements have been signed with the
ministry but have yet to be activated.”
Hindi presented an honorary
plaque to the minister expressing appreciation for the efforts
he and his ministry have undertaken in the Palestinian health sector.
Afterwards the minister toured the university’s facilities, including the
Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health
Professions.
