Palestinian Health Minister Visits Birzeit University for Talks on Cooperation

Palestinian Minister of Health Hani Abdeen visited Birzeit University on January 28, meeting with Birzeit President Khalil Hindi and touring the facilities. The meeting was also attended by Vice President for Advancement and Communication Ghassan Khatib, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions Tamer Essawi, and Bioequivalence Unit Coordinator Ramzi Sansour.

The minister and Birzeit officials discussed areas for possible cooperation, including opportunities for students and academics to train in skills development and medical support with the Ministry of Health.

Abdeen called on universities, including Birzeit University, to provide a comprehensive overview of health needs in Palestine, and to work cumulatively to ensure the quality of care.

"The Ministry of Health aspires to develop a strategic plan in cooperation with Palestinian universities, where each university has a role to play," the minister said.

President Hindi said of the visit that the two parties “aimed to explore prospects and possibilities for cooperation with the Ministry of Health, especially since several agreements have been signed with the ministry but have yet to be activated.”

Hindi presented an honorary plaque to the minister expressing appreciation for the efforts he and his ministry have undertaken in the Palestinian health sector. Afterwards the minister toured the university’s facilities, including the Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.
