Visiting Professor Lectures on Kidney Cancer and its Treatment
The Institute of Community
and Public Health (ICPH) at Birzeit University on February
16, 2013 held the seventh lecture in a series. The talk was entitled "Epidemiology of Kidney
Cancer: Renal Cell Carcinoma" and was delivered
by University
of Florida Health Sciences Center Professor Emeritus of
Epidemiology Nabih Asal.
Professor Asal addressed the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancer. "If
the cancer is in the kidney only, which applies to about 40% of cases,
90% of these cases can be cured with surgery. If, however, it has spread beyond the kidneys, often to the
lymph nodes or main
renal veins, treatment besides surgery
becomes a must,” he told the audience.
The
ICPH lecture series contributes to the process of building a Palestinian health
care system through a strategy that develops health services and provides health
information for Palestinians.
