Challenge Fund: Supporting Hope for the Future
The Challenge Fund is a special fund established in January 2001 to provide scholarships and stipends for students who were particularly affected by the Israeli occupation due to the loss or injury of a family member, personal injury, or partial or full loss of household income. The Fund aims to assist these students in meeting the challenges of building a future despite the obstacles of the present and the past. The Challenge Fund provides support for tuition fees and stipends for books, transportation or housing expenses depending on the student's financial needs. Since its establishment and through the generous support of many individuals, the Challenge Fund has already enabled many students to continue their education at Birzeit.
Challenge Fund Scholarships may come in the form of Endowed Bachelors or Annual Scholarships. General donations to the Fund are also welcome.
Seeds of Hope Scholarships
Seeds of Hope Scholarships are tuition based scholarships that cover the tuition fees on behalf of the students. Students’ tuition fees cover, on average, only 35% of their actual cost. This entails that any student entering the University is given an automatic grant to cover the remainder of their actual educational cost. However, due to the current situation, an increasingly large number of students are unable to pay even their greatly subsidized fees, creating an additional burden on the University’s already limited financial resources. The University is dedicated to finding solutions for these students and upholding its principle that no student should be denied their right to education for financial reasons. You can establish a Seeds of Hope scholarship with a donation of $1,200, the average tuition cost for a student studying at Birzeit. Your complete donation to the Seeds of Hope Fund will go directly to an undergraduate student’s account at the University.
Hala Atallah Scholarship Fund
The Hala Atallah Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 in commemoration of the late Dr. Hala Atallah, who founded educational counseling at Birzeit University and greatly contributed to women’s rights and welfare in Palestinian society. The Fund was initiated and is supervised by the Institute of Women’s Studies to empower female students studying at Birzeit University. Annually, the Fund provides support in the form of tuition assistance and stipends for books, housing and transportation to tens of students at Birzeit.
