French Language

The Bachelor program in French Language strives for academic excellence in its teaching and learning strategies. In an effort to serve students interested in languages, cultural diversity and openness, it is our goal to enhance our students’ skills and orient them towards both professional and academic fields such as studies in literature, linguistics, translation, education, etc.

  • To gain transferable skills to be used in graduate studies (Master’s and doctoral degrees) and in different careers.
  • To acquire linguistic competences (i.e. mastering discursive and communicative competences according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  • To encourage autonomous learning, and allowing students to gain a rich understanding of other cultures such as Francophone societies (French-speaking societies) in the purpose to create an intercultural exchange.
  • To acquire methodological competences (i.e. mastering research tools and methods as well as fostering critical thinking)
  • Understand the Francophone cultures (French-speaking countries cultures)  and current issues.
  • Understand complex spoken discourse.
  • Understand complex written texts.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Analyze written and spoken discourses.
  • Synthesize documents both verbally and in writing.
  • Translate both verbally and written
  • Enrich vocabulary and specific terminology
